Welcome!Obersee Bilingual School is a private school that delivers high-quality bilingual care and education for children aged 3 months through Primary School years. At each level — babycare, prekindergarten, kindergarten, and primary school — the school is designed to meet the personal, social, emotional, physical and developmental needs of the children while promoting the highest standards of learning. Our team of certified and experienced teachers is dedicated to the values of bilingual education and whole-child educational methods. Offering full service for families, we provide before and after-school care, holiday care, bus service between locations, warm lunches and onsite after-school classes. Obersee Bilingual School provides children with the social, cognitive and linguistic benefits of a bilingual education, while at the same time taking the needs of today's family into account. Our curriculum combines the highest standards of international and Swiss schools with music, arts and sports, including dance, swimming and skiing. Obersee students have all options open to them: international, Swiss or bilingual Gymnasium or secondary schools. Starting in August 2012 we will offer in partnership with The Würth Group, who has been active in education for 30 years, a bilingual secondary school and gymnasium that will enable children to complete their education with the Matura, IB diploma, or both. Located in Canton Schwyz in Switzerland, over looking the lake of Zurich, Obersee Bilingual School is designed to meet the needs of expatriate parents who want to give their child the chance to integrate into the local community without neglecting the development of their English skills. We are also the solution for local parents who want their children to develop native-level English skills, and for those parents who need all-day schooling for their children. AdmissionEntrance anytime throughout the year is allowed. Children need not be bilingual to join Obersee Bilingual School. We support monolingual children, and it is possible up to third grade to enter the system as a monolingual. Bilingualism in the workplace and in higher educationWithin the German-speaking part of Switzerland, 50% of people working in academic institutions and top management positions use both English and German in their every day work. Many Masters as well as PhD degree programs are offered in English, but require knowledge of German. Bilingual education — opening doors, entering new worldsProfessional and educational advantages belong to those who can express themselves with native-level confidence in more than one language. Immersion teaching results in near-native written and spoken competence in the "new" language while positively influencing development of the native language. Bilingual education leads to brain function improvements that last into old age. Studies show that bilingually educated children readily embrace new challenges, are demonstrably more socially tolerant and display more creativity in problem solving skills that their monolingual peers. Discover the opportunitiesChildren graduating from bilingual primary schools have plentiful continuing education opportunities: Bilingual or Swiss gymnasium, English high-school, public secondary school and beyond to local or international universities. Integrate into the communityFamilies new to the area can integrate into the local community while maintaining international connections. Bilingual schools appeal to families planning on extended stays in Switzerland. StabilityBilingual school communities are stable. Families stay at least three years. Prepared for the futureObersee Bilingual School children are prepared for a globally oriented and challenging future that will require confident, clear thinking, open minded and independent yet team oriented leaders and community members. Encouraged to explore, question and investigate, Obersee children reach their fullest potential while learning to respect themselves, the world around them, and the people with whom they share the world.
